Despidiendo atardeceres en el Ampurdán  y con temperaturas más frescas que las de los últimos días, decidí arrancar etiquetas y lucir algunas de mis primeras adquisiciones de nueva temporada.

Ocho botones y mucha tela, os presento mis XXL boyfriends. Por lo exagerados -cuando los vi, me recordaron los que llevó Sarah Jessica Parker, firmados por José Castro- ni me lo pensé. Tienes la impresión de haberlos sacado del armario de tu chico: grandes, caídos y excesivos. Y, por eso mismo, particularmente “friendly”: amigables,  acogedores, cordiales, amigos. Pero con ese pequeño toque canalla que los hace particularmente sexis.

A pesar de mi predilección por los extra skinny, investigar el lado cómodo y más opuesto a lo que entendemos como femenino, sienta bien, o eso creo yo.

Una opinión con ocho botones y mucha tela.

Eight buttons and lots of fabric

Saying goodbye to sunsets in Empordà (Catalonia, Spain) and with cooler temperatures than those in recent days, I decided to start wearing labels and showing off some of my first purchases of the new season.

Eight buttons and lots of material, I present you my XXL boyfriends. So exaggerated – when I saw them they reminded me of those worn by Sarah Jessica Parker, designed by Jose Castro – or so I thought. You get the impression that you have taken them out of your boyfriend’s wardrobe: they’re large, baggy and excessive. And, for the same reason, particularly “friendly”: amicable, cosy, cordial, friends. But with this little saucy touch which makes them particularly sexy.

Despite being partial for extra skinny ones, researching the comfortable and polar opposite side of what we understand as feminine, feels good, or so I think.

Las lluvias de agosto refrescan el verano poco a poco, matándolo a sorbos. Y sentimos en sus tardes cada vez más más cortas y amarillas que también se nos está yendo la temporada vivida de primavera-verano. Comenzamos a hablar de ella en pasado. Una etapa, nada más que una etapa, con sus  momentos especiales y el rastro de pequeñas joyas en nuestro ropero (y quizás algún error malquerido). Pero, muerto el rey, ¡viva el rey!  Tenemos ahí mismo, doblando la curva, a nuestra vuelta de vacaciones, la temporada otoño-invierno 2011 cargada de expectativas aún imprecisas. La moda no deja de ser una metáfora del tiempo, de la vida. Me viene al recuerdo aquel bello título de un libro de Mircea Elíade: “El mito del eterno retorno”.

Pensaba en todo esto mientras revisaba las fotos del reportaje, cuando vi que mi querido fotógrafo había entretenido sus pausas tomando algunas imágenes de las líneas trazadas en el asfalto de la carretera. Vistas de corrido, cobraban movimiento e inducían a ese viaje continuo que componen las temporadas de moda. Como el de la extraordinaria novela de Keruac, “On the Road”, verdadero manifiesto de la generación beat y mitificadora de la interestatal 66, que atraviesa en horizontal la América profunda y que aún hoy sigue atrayendo a viajeros de todo el mundo. El viaje por el viaje, los kilómetros por los kilómetros. A fondo. La moda como viaje permanente.

“Un coche rápido, una larga carretera y una mujer al final del camino”, como diría Keruac.

On the road

The August rains refresh the summer little by little, killing it by sips. And we feel in its increasingly shorter and yellower evenings that the lived spring-summer season is also going. We’ve started talking about it in the past. One period, nothing but a period, with its special moments and the trail of little gems in our wardrobes (and maybe some unloved mistake). But, the king being dead, long live the king! We are right there, turning around the curve, on our return from holidays, the autumn-winter 2011 season is full of expectations, even inaccurate ones. Fashion doesn’t stop being a metaphor for time, for life. The memory of that beautiful title of a book by Mircea Eliade comes to mind: “The Myth of the Eternal Return.”

I was thinking all this while reviewing photos of the interview, when I saw my dear photographer had had fun during his breaks by taking some pictures of the lines drawn on the asphalt of the road. Journey views, took on movement and led to that continuous trip which composes the fashion seasons. Like the extraordinary novel by Kerouac, “On the Road”, a true manifesto of the mystifying beat generation of the Route 66, which crosses the American heartland horizontally and even today continues to attract travellers from around the world. The trip for the trip, the kiliometres for the kilometres. In depth. Fashion as a lifelong journey.

“Los reyes del mambo bailan canciones de amor”. En cuanto los vi, me vino el título de aquella novela de Oscar Hijuelos (con Banderas en la malograda versión cinematográfica). Comprobé luego que el título correcto no era “bailan…” sino “tocan…”, pero -¿qué os voy a decir?- creo que el traído por mi feliz memoria está mucho mejor y lo mantengo. Estoy segura de que el Sr. Hijuelos tomará buena cuenta de mi observación y hasta podría utilizar una foto de estos maravillosos zapatos como portada en una futura edición.

Hace muy pocas semanas Deux Souliers presentó su primera colección en un espacio tan singular como  la Galería H-20, que fue  toda una declaración de principios: producto artesanal, pero actual y de vanguardia , y comprometiendo siempre la excelencia.

Lo tienen claro: apostar fuerte, ofreciendo una colección selectiva, con modelos muy diferentes, en pieles y materiales naturales de máxima calidad. Aplaudimos con descaro su voluntad de posibilitar un zapato más personalizado, optando por la creatividad, la individualización y la interacción del cliente con el producto. Estamos viviendo el final (así lo queremos creer) de un  época en la que la producción en masa había secado casi por completo el trabajo artesanal, tan interesante y especial. Afortunadamente estamos reaccionando, saturados de tanta masificación, impersonalidad y calidad “estadística”, y buscamos exclusividad en términos que no impliquen precios prohibitivos, objetivo difícil, pero al alcance de proyectos empresariales valientes e inteligentes que consigan integrar con éxito los diferentes aspectos necesarios de la creatividad, producción y comercialización. Ya lo dije. Yo me enamoré perdidamente de sus zapatos masculinos, entre un Oxford clásico inglés y las Porqueres tradicionales de Menorca, extremadamente versátiles y atemporales.

Love songs are dancing

“The kings of mambo are dancing love songs”. As soon as I saw them, I recalled the title of that novel by Oscar Hijuelos (with Banderas in the flop cinematographic version). I later checked to see that the correct title was not “…are dancing” rather “…are playing”, but – what am I going to tell you? – I believe that the mistake by my happy memory is much better and I maintain it. I am sure that Mr. Hijuelos will take my observation well and he could even use a photo of these marvellous shoes as a front cover of a future edition.

A few short weeks ago Deux Souliers presented their first collection in a place as quirky as the H-20 Gallery, which was a total declaration of principles: handcrafted products, but up-to-date and avant-garde, and always committing to excellence.

They know what they’re doing: betting hard, offering a selective collection, with very different outfits, in leathers and natural materials that are of maximum quality. We cheekily applaud their wish to make a more personalized shoe possible, opting for creativity, individuality and the client’s interaction with the product. We are living the end (that’s how we want to view it) of an era in which the mass production had almost completely phased out the handcrafted work, that’s so interesting and special. Fortunately we are reacting, saturated from so much overcrowding, impersonality and “statistical” quality and we are looking for exclusivity in terms which don’t imply exorbitant prices, a difficult objective, but within reach of brave and intelligent business projects that manage to successfully integrate the different necessary aspect of creativity, production and commercialization. Like Deux Souliers. Welcome and good luck!

I already said it. I fell madly in love with their masculine shoes, which are between a classic English Oxford and the traditional Porqueres in Menorca, extremely versatile and timeless.

Who wouldn’t? Look at them and you’ll see that they are dancing love songs.

Recorriendo la Rioja por carreteras secundarias y entre viñedos sin fin, a la salida de una curva surgió la sorpresa de un edificio singular futurista de cubiertas metálicas y colorido indefinido, como el del vino expuesto a las mil formas posibles de la luz. Mi acompañante gritó: Frank Gehry (el chico es muy leído). No lo esperaba, no lo había visto antes ni sabía que era el hotel bodega Marqués de Riscal, pero gritó el nombre del prestigioso arquitecto del Guggenheim de Bilbao. No le hizo falta ningún cartel. Tampoco lo hubiese necesitado a la vista del Pabellón Pritzker de Chicago, del Museo Weisman de Minneapolis, la Casa Danzante de Praga o la Sala de Conciertos Walt Disney de Los Angeles. Y el grito hubiese sido idéntico.

Hay algo en el modo de hacer, de disponer, de estructurar, de presentar, que pone de manifiesto una personalidad creativa de forma tan evidente como una firma. En la arquitectura, la pintura, la escultura, la literatura, la música, la cocina, el cine…

Y en nuestro querido mundo de la moda, también. Puedo, podemos, reconocer el patrón y las líneas arquitectónicas de Nicolas Ghesquière;  el corte, el print y la mezcla de colores de Marni; el tan amado y odiado sexy glam de Balmain; las líneas simples y puras de Jil Sander; los estampados llamativos de Dries Van Noten.

Lo mismo me ocurre con Teresa Helbig. Sus colecciones son inequívocamente  femeninas, delicadas, sugerentes, sexis, con un aire preppy atractico y cosmopolita. De algún modo, como ella misma. Pero, además, añade una querencia por el print sutil y de calidad, que eleva al nivel del arte y de la magia, y que yo asocio inevitablemente a ese mundo creativo suyo. Quiero recordar que, en algunas de mis visitas a su show-room, vestía alguna de esas creaciones suyas…

Teresa Helbig es como ella.

With signature

Travelling around La Rioja through secondary roads and among endless vineyards, at the exit from a curve the surprising sight came up, it was a singular futuristic building with metallic covering and undefined colours, like that of wine exposed to the thousands of possible shapes of light. My companion shouted: Frank Gehry (the guy is well-read). He did not expect it, he had not seen it before nor did he know that it was the winery hotel Marqués de Riscal, but he shouted out the name of the prestigious architect of the Guggenheim in Bilbao. He did not need any sign. Nor would he have needed to have in front of him the Pritzker Pavillion in Chicago, from the Weisman Museum in Minneapolis, the Dancing House in Prague or the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. And the shout would have been identical.

There is something in the way of doing, of having at your disposal, of structuring, of presenting, which clearly shows a creative personality in such an obvious way like a signature. In architecture, painting, sculpture, literature, cookery, cinema…

And in our beloved world of fashion, also. I can, we can, recognize the pattern and the architectonic lines by Nicolas Ghesquière;  the cut, the print and the mix of colours by Marni; the much loved and hated sexy glam by Balmain; the simple and pure lines by Jil Sander; the bright prints by Dries Van Noten.

The same occurs to me with Teresa Helbig. Her collections are unequivocally feminine, delicate, suggestive, sexy, with a preppy air that’s attractive and cosmopolitan. In some way, like the lady herself. But, in addition, it adds a wish for the high quality subtle print, which raises the level of art and magic,and which I associate inevitably with this creative world of hers. I want to remember that, during some of my visits to her show-room, I wore some of those creations of hers…

Un libro de páginas en blanco, decíamos ayer. Pero no todas las páginas en blanco son iguales. Ni siquiera dos. Cada una habla de una situación singular, cada una exige una respuesta propia, diferente. El arte de vestir esas diferencias es el estilo, el corazón de la moda real, de la moda vivida.

Hemos querido para hoy un momento especial. Podría ser una primera cita, la visita a una diseñadora o la asistencia a un show-room, una presentación, un concierto… Vamos a estar expuestas ante quienes admiramos. Queremos presentarnos, pero no explicarnos: jugar con el claroscuro; obtener, como pequeño reflejo de nuestra admiración, un inicio de la suya. Salir apenas airosas.

Elegimos la sutileza, sin declararnos del todo. Simple pero elegante. Nada rotundo, nada evidente, nada excesivo. Un look urbano con cierto toque sofisticado por las sandalias y el top desmayado. Colores contenidos. Pero abriendo una duda con algo nuevo y especial: el bolso de ANGELA, una mujer valiente y apasionada, capaz de dejar una trayectoria profesional  de veinte años en la publicidad para cumplir su sueño: LE CHARME DE SON SAC. Desde que la conocí comparto su fascinación por los bolsos y aplaudo su voluntad de ofrecer una colección casi de edición limitada: pocas unidades, con elementos exclusivos y acabados de primera calidad. Y un toque de distinción: cada bolso tiene un nombre de mujer. Ana ha sido hoy mi elección.

With something new and special

A book of blank pages, we were saying yesterday. But not all blank pages are the same. Not even two of them. Each speaks of a unique situation, each one requires a response which is different. The art of dressing these differences is the style, the real heart of fashion, from lived fashion.

We wanted a special moment for today. It could be a first date, a visit to a designer or attending a show-room, a presentation, a concert … We will be exposed to those whom we admire. We want to introduce ourselves, but not explain ourselves: playing with the chiaroscuro, to obtain, as a small reflection of our admiration, the beginning of theirs. To hardly leave gracefully.

We chose the subtlety, without declaring ourselves fully. Simple but elegant. Nothing overwhelming, nothing obvious, nothing excessive. An urban look with a certain touch of sophistication with the sandals and the understated top. Contained colours. But raising a doubt with something new and special: ANGELA bag, a brave and passionate woman, capable of leaving her twenty-year-long professional career in advertising to pursue her dream: LE CHARME DE SON SAC. Since I met her I share her fascination for handbags and I applaud her willingness to offer an almost limited edition collection: a few units, with unique elements and top quality finishes. And a touch of class: Each bag has a woman’s name. Ana has been my choice for today.

Pensé que esta metáfora era aplicable también al mundo de la moda. Contamos con un libro de innumerables páginas en blanco. Lo abrimos cada vez que, de una carta llegada, surge una invitación imprevista: o, de una conversación telefónica, una cita; cada vez que abrimos nuestro armario o colocamos sobre la cama diversas versiones de nosotras mismas; cuando buceamos en un blog (DIARIO DE ESTILO, por supuesto) o en una revista, o vemos reflejado nuestro deseo en el cristal de un escaparate; cada vez que, en definitiva, nos imaginamos…  Vivir la moda no es otra cosa que llenar cada una de esas páginas, desarrollando ideas desde múltiples puntos de partida, para proyectarnos, expresarnos.

El primer trazo en mi página en blanco de hoy es inevitablemente para las rosas de verano de Fernando Claro, todo sutileza, levedad, elegancia, atemporalidad, seducción, sentimiento. El resto dialoga, como contraste, sin protagonismos, desde la normalidad, desde la informalidad. Lo más precisa tanto de lo menos como lo menos de lo más.

Un verano de rosas en blanco… “Aspíralas y enciéndete. Y escucha, cuando todo se apague, el silencio del mundo” (Brines).

A summer of blank pages

Christina Lacroix granted a personal interview with Marie-Françoise Colombari and Sylvia Sharif in which, referring to his recent hard times, he said: “I see a blank page, an opportunity to start from scratch.”

I thought this metaphor was also applicable to the world of fashion. We have a book of many blank pages. We opened it every time, from a letter that’s arrived, an unexpected invitation comes: or, from a telephone conversation, an appointment, every time we open our closet or put several versions of ourselves on the bed, when we dive into a blog (DIARIO DE ESTILO, of course) or in a magazine, or see our desire reflected in the glass of a shop window, each time, finally, we imagine … Living fashion is nothing but filling each of those pages, developing ideas from multiple starting points for projects, to express ourselves.

The first line in my blank page today is inevitably for summer roses by Fernando Claro, all subtlety, lightness, elegance, timelessness, seduction, sentiment. The rest of it talks, in contrast without protagonists, from normality, from informality. The most accurate thing both at least as least as much.

A summer of white roses … “Suck them up and come alive. And listen, when everything goes off, to the silence of the world “(Brines).

Hacer los últimos kilómetros del Amazonas en canoa sin motor es una experiencia increíble. Te sientes parte del gran río, uno más de los troncos y tierras  devorados y arrastrados por un caudal total. Luego te abres al mar inmenso sin querer dejar de ser río, tenaz en tu fuerza y color terroso. Imponente y sobrecogedor.

Nos impresionan los finales. Tanto que solemos olvidar los inicios, la fuente que un día fue el gran río, amiga entonces sólo del silencio, la sombra y pájaros infrecuentes.

Eso mismo ocurre en la moda, donde el gran abrazo final del río con el mar se celebra en las pasarelas exclusivas y los grandes iconos. Los focos deslumbran tanto allí que desdibujan cualquier pasado. Pero lo hubo, lo hay. Ocurre cada día.

Hemos querido acercarnos a una fuente real de moda, visitando el prestigioso IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) de Barcelona, especializado en formar profesionales con gran capacidad creativa, dispuestos a constituirse en protagonistas dentro del sector tan complejo, diversificado e influyente de la moda. Y la oportunidad era especialmente idónea: asistir al desfile de los proyectos de cierre de carrera de los alumnos de Diseño de Moda 2010: NEO POP – STEP INTO THE FUTURE. Todo un descubrimiento que compartimos aquí.

Ante el pase de aquellas brillantes propuestas, como decidida apuesta de futuro, pensé que el Amazonas no era sino una inmensa pasarela y que las aguas nuevas que yo veía partir, caminaban ya inevitablemente hacia los focos, flashes y aplausos del éxito.

Celebramos vuestra partida. STEP INTO THE  FUTURE. Buena suerte.

IED Barcelona: STEP INTO THE FUTURE

Doing the last kilometres of the Amazon in a canoe without an engine is an incredible experience. You feel part of the great river, one more of the logs and land devoured and carried by a total flow. Then you open up the vast sea while being inadvertently a river that’s tenacious in its strength and earthy colour. Impressive and overwhelming.

We are impressed with the ending. So much so that we tend to forget the beginnings, the source that was once the great river, friend then just silence, shade and rare birds.

The same happens in fashion, where the final big hug from the river to the sea is held on the exclusive catwalks and with the great icons. The glaring lights that blur so much that they erase any past. But there was, there is. It happens every day.

We wanted to get closer to a real source of fashion, visiting the prestigious IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) in Barcelona, which specializes in training professionals with great potential for creativity, who are willing to become stars in the sector as complex, diverse and influential as fashion. And the timing was especially appropriate: watch the show of the students’ projects at the degree closing ceremony of Fashion Design 2010: NEO POP – STEP INTO THE FUTURE. A discovery that we’re sharing here.

Before the passing of those brilliant suggestions, as determined commitment to the future, I thought the Amazon was only a huge catwalk and new waters as I saw, and inevitably they walked towards the lights, flashes and applause of success.

1 de julio de 2010, en el IED: 6ª edición de su desfile de moda, que este año lleva por título NEO POP 2010 – STEP INTO THE FUTURE.
47 alumnos de último año de Diseño de Moda proponen un total de 110 estilismos de su creación, agrupados alrededor de cuatro conceptos: Robotic Wave – Cromatix vs Urban – Lumix, The Weight of Light - Organic Sensibility, Mecaorganic New Country Glam.

El desfile supuso una ambiciosa relectura del pop en el siglo XXI, subrayando -a través de luces, colores y formas orgánicas y mecánicas- la centralidad de la persona y su sociabilidad. Un diálogo que trata de las personas, de nosotros y nuestra cotidianidad.

Siguen mis apuestas personales comentadas.

ROBOTIC WAVE: estructuras arquitectónicas en diseños exagerados y visualmente potentes. Nos inclinamos por los que, fieles a ese enfoque, se adaptan más a la realidad y el uso.

Mis preferencias:

R-Evolution, de Mariana Vásquez. Una visión futurista que mezcla colores fríos (gris plomo, azul neón, negro y blanco) e investiga de forma sostenible con volúmenes ponibles y reales.

Síndrome Peter Pan, de Elena Calvo. Una explosión de color, como una fantástica caja de bombones llena de deliciosas sorpresas: una caja negra que, al abrirla, te inunda de color con diseños atrevidos, divertidos y diferentes para los peques. Cuando los niños abren sus abrigos, el color estalla.

CROMATIX vs URBAN: piezas de carácter urbano y muy coloristas.

Me inclino por:

The Nopluss Class, de Jennifer Murray. Una visión peculiar y arriesgada. Un ejercicio de reflexión sobre la industria de las aerolíneas y la degradación del servicio en los vuelos de bajo coste. La diseñadora pretende transmitir la experiencia de un vuelo agradable, recuperando la importancia de la imagen.

MUM; Turn on the TV, de Ana Cristina García. Nos gusta cómo ha trabajado la lana y los colores, y su mirada desenfadada sobre el loco mundo televisivo. Estupenda la estructura de las mangas de la chaqueta, el print y la mezcla de colores inesperados y hasta exagerados, para una imagen dinámica y atrevida.

Sinfonía Cromática, de Marilia Herrmann. Vestidos elegantes, coloristas, que permiten entrever, a través de pliegues, una hermosa sinfonía.

LUMIX: color y luminosidad.

Quiero destacar:

Weight of Light, de Noa Goren. Sin duda una de mis favoritas del desfile. Diseños muy reales y ponibles, en una colección tranquila que nos acerca a la naturaleza. Sus dégradés en tops y bermudas nos llaman especialmente la atención, así como la elección de colores empolvados, tan agradables de vestir en verano. Toques contenidos de minimalismo nórdico.

The Colors of Time, de Nayra González. Me encantan sus blusas en color nude, con aplicaciones de cristales, combinadas con shorts que se leen como una segunda piel y resultan una delicia.

Gossip, de Sasia Stubbe. Como indica el nombre de la colección, uno puede chismorrear lo que considere porque las propuestas de esta diseñadora no dejan a nadie indiferente. Vestidos maravillosamente trabajados, con aplicaciones y transparencias que sugieren una elegancia más allá de lo evidente.

ORGANIC SENSIBILITY: piezas que dialogan con la naturaleza gracias al uso de hilos y tejidos orgánicos y tintes naturales.

Destacamos:

Neorgánica, de Clara Mallart. Diseños urbanos, sostenibles y con un carácter claramente romántico.

Black Raimbow Riding Mob, de Benedikt Luedke. A destacar la aparente sencillez de sus propuestas y cómo trabaja la lana y el denim. Una estética irónicamente sureña y a la par, plenamente urbana. Me enamoré de los detalles que enriquecían su puesta en escena.

Hubo un tiempo cercano del siglo XX en que la música se enlataba en discos de 33 ó 45 r.p.m., enfundados en carátulas legendarias, que hoy son verdaderas tentaciones (sin sexo) para muchos coleccionistas. Un amigo mío, fetichista refinado e irredento, tiene un pasillo de su casa decorado con una selectiva colección de aquellas carátulas, convertido así en su particular templo pop.

Allí nació la idea de este look: vestir, sentir, vivir la música.

La base está en este vestido ligero estampado de carátulas de disco. Pertenece a la firma Blue Area, que ha tomado como línea para este año la ilustración de camisetas y vestidos con iconos musicales e imágenes de “celebrities”. Las sandalias fueron diseñadas por la cantante brasileña Foxy Heart para Melissa: una edición limitada  para sus fieles más extravagantes, poniendo una rata como cierre.

Al vestir este look no pude sino sonreír al imaginar que me había enfundado el pasillo de un amigo y lo sacaba a pasear por las sombras del verano.

Music Dress

There was a time near the twentieth century in which music was canned in many or few R.P.M. records, clad in legendary leathers, that today are true temptations (without sex) for many collectors. A friend of mine, a refined and unredeemed fetishist, has a corridor in his house decorated with a select collection of these covers, that, like this, are turned into your particular pop temple.

There the idea for this look was born: Dress, feel, live music.

The foundation is in this light dress patterned with record covers. It belongs to the brand Blue Area, which has taken on shirts and dresses with musical icons and images of celebrities as a theme for this year. The sandals were designed by the Brazilian singer Foxy Heart for Melissa: a limited edition for its most extravagant followers, putting a rat as the clasp.

When wearing this outfit I could not but smile at the thought that I had wrapped myself up in a friend’s hallway and I’d take it out for a walk through the shadows of the summer.

Sobre el mueble de la entrada llevaba días la invitación de Sony Ericsson para la fiesta y desfile de CUSTO BCN. El martes, 29, a las 21,30 h., en la terraza del Mellow Beach Club del Hotel Vela.

Vestirse para estas situaciones es siempre un reto, pero se multiplica si vas a exponerte al mundo extremado, potente y colorista de CUSTO.

Desde el primer momento tuve claro que quería vestir de McQueen, en su penúltima colección. Sus diseños siguen emocionando, están llenos de poesía, una poesía amarga pero extremadamente hermosa, y, cuando los vistes, sientes cruzar esa fina línea entre realidad y fantasía, casi sientes su sombra. Dan fe las fotos. También yo.

McQueen’s Shadow in CUSTO BCN

On top of the piece of furniture in the entrance, the invitation from Sony Ericsson  for the party and fashion show by CUSTO BCN, had been there for days. On Tuesday 29th, on the terrace of the Mellow Beach Club at Hotel Vela.

Getting dressed for these situations is always a challenge, but it multiplies if you are going to expose yourself to the extreme, powerful and colourful world of CUSTO.

From the first moment, it was clear to me that I wanted to wear something by McQueen, from his penultimate collection. His designs keep moving people, they are full of poetry, a bitter but extremely beautiful poetry, and, when you wear them, you feel like you’re crossing a fine line between reality and fantasy, you almost feel his shadow. The photos give you faith. To me too.

La noche se hizo corta al lado de Belén, B a la Moda y Cármen, El Diablo se viste de Zara y nos encantó saludar a Gala, Am-lul. Gracias.

Las tardes de los viernes están hechas para abandonarse en paseos y dejarse llevar hasta las sorpresas de la ciudad en que se vive. Eso hacía yo por Enrique Granados, una de las calles más agradables del Ensanche barcelonés, cuando me di de bruces con el magnífico espacio de la Galería ADN y la sorprendente muestra de fotografía e instalaciones del artista croata Igor Eskinja. Fue como saborear una copa -dos copas- del mejor cava helado,  por lo que me conjuré para compartirlas con vosotras en el siguiente reportaje.

Debo reconocer que en algún momento de la sesión fotográfica me contagié de la irrealidad creada por las imágenes de Eskinja, como si yo misma fuese una más de sus instalaciones, y aún hoy mantengo la duda. Más aún al revisar ahora el reportaje.

Tratándose de una ocasión tan especial, decidí un look sobrio y elegante, partiendo del pantalón de talle alto de Fernando Claro, color naranja empolvado, muy de vestir por la nobleza de la seda y por su patrón, acentuado por el volumen exagerado en la cadera. Para realzarlo, lo combiné con un top de Hervé Leger, todo un clásico atemporal, y las sandalias de Georgina Goodman (en el suelo, como iconos, como una instalación más de la exposición), quizás el punto más extremado y de tendencia del look. Los complementos  de Laura B -collar y anillo-, delicados y actuales, potenciando la elegancia del conjunto. Y, como rasgo extremado final, la bombonera de Erva, de piel de pitón.

Estoy segura de que  Igor Eskinja nunca llegó a pensar que su mundo pudiese asomarse por un blog de moda. Quizás él piense, más bien, que las imágenes de esta publicación se han desprendido de sus instalaciones, de modo independiente y con vida propia. Me viene aquello de Yves Saint-Laurent: “La moda no es un arte, pero para dedicarse a ella hay que ser artista”. Quizás moda y arte tengan ADN compartido.

Fernando Claro & Igor Eskinja: Shared DNA

Friday afternoons are made to lose yourself on walks and be swept away towards the surprises of the city that you live in. This is what I was doing along Enrique Granados, one of the most pleasant streets of the Ensanche neighbourhood in Barcelona, when I bumped into the magnificent space that is the ADN Gallery and the surprising display of photography and installations by the Croatian artist Igor Eskinja. It was like savouring a drink – two glasses – of the best chilled Cava, which is why I conspired to share them with all of you in the following article.

I must recognize that at some point in the photoshoot I got hooked on the unreality created by Eskinja’s images, as if I, myself, were one more of his installations, and even today I remain in doubt. Even more so on revising the article now.

As it was such a special occasion, I decided on a sober and elegant look, breaking up the high-waisted trousers by Fernando Claro, in powdery orange, very dressy due to the nobility of the silk and its pattern, accentuated by the exaggerated volume on the hips. To highlight it, I have combined it with a top by Hervé Leger, an absolutely timeless classic, and the sandals by Georgina Goodman (on the floor, like icons, like one more installation of the exhibition), perhaps the most extreme and trendiest part of the look. The accessories by Laura B –necklace and ring-, delicate and current, boosting the elegance of the outfit. And, as a final extreme feature, the clutch bag by Erva, made from python skin.

I am sure that Igor Eskinja never would have thought that his world could overlook a fashion blog. Maybe he thinks, rather, that the images of this publication have come off of his installations, in an independent way and with a life of their own. That Yves Saint-Laurent quote comes to me: “Fashion is not an art, but to do it for a living you have to be an artist”. Perhaps fashion and art have shared DNA.

IGOR ESKINJA (Rijeka, 1975) es uno de los jóvenes artistas croatas contemporáneos con mayor proyección internacional. Su obra ha sido exhibida en varios países de Europa y América, recibiendo críticas favorables y prestigiosos premios, entre ellos el ARCO Joven Artista 2007.

A la entrada de una de sus exposiciones, se podía pisar un rótulo en el suelo que decía:

                En un punto de esta área
                a la altura de 140 cm.
                si miras atentamente
                tu mente se vuelve rebelde

Esta experiencia se nos brinda en la Galería ADN (Enrique Granados, 49) en la sugestiva muestra titulada NOWHERISTAN, donde Eskinja propone una experiencia sensorial que nos induce a dudar de la objetividad de la mirada y de la realidad de las imágenes e instalaciones. Un descubrimiento.
